Types of face masks

Face masks vary in their composition, purpose and suitability for different skin types.

Here are the most common types of face masks found in skincare.

1. Moisturising masks

Moisturising masks are for dry, dehydrated skin. They usually contain active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, glycerine and various vegetable oils. These masks provide intense hydration and help to restore the skin's elasticity, softness, plumpness and radiance.

2. Liftingncia masks

A face mask that smoothes the skin's texture and gives a lifting effect. These face masks improve the elasticity of the skin, giving it a luminous appearance.

3. Cleansing (detoxifying) masks

This type of mask usually contains clay, activated charcoal or salicylic acid. They effectively remove impurities, excess sebum and dead skin cells. Suitable for oily and combination skin prone to acne and clogged pores.

4. Exfoliating masks

Masks with fruit acids (AHA) and salicylic acid remove dead skin cells, stimulate skin cell renewal, promote skin health and restore radiance. Helps fight dirt, fine lines, pigmentation and signs of fatigue.

5. Anti-aging masks

Masks with vitamins C, E, retinol and peptides help fight wrinkles, restore skin elasticity and reduce the signs of ageing. They stimulate collagen production and improve skin firmness and tone.

6. Soothing masks

These masks are mainly used for sensitive facial skin. They contain extracts of chamomile, lavender or aloe vera, which help reduce redness, irritation and inflammation. Suitable for people with extremely sensitive and allergic skin.

7. Luminous masks

Masks containing vitamin C, arbutin or other brightening ingredients are designed to reduce uneven skin tone and pigmentation. They can help to remove dark spots and give the skin a lighter, smoother appearance.

8. Heating or cooling masks

These masks have the unique ability to change temperature, so they can help relax muscles and improve circulation. Warming masks help to cleanse pores and relax the skin, while cooling masks can reduce swelling and soothe irritated skin.

9. Gel masks

Gel masks have a mild cooling effect. They are most often used to revitalise and moisturise the skin. Especially after sun exposure or after intensive cosmetic procedures. They are suitable for all skin types, but are mostly recommended for sensitive and dehydrated skin.

Tips for use

Sheet face masks: for a sheet face mask to be truly effective and to give you the best results when you take it off, there are a few things to consider

  1. Prepare your skin properly. Thoroughly remove make-up with a cleanser or micellar water, and wash off any residue with a cleanser and warm but not hot water. Gently pat your skin dry.
  2. Next, the tonic. It opens the pores, which ensures that the mask's active ingredients are absorbed by the skin much better, and also helps to balance your skin's PH level
  3. For best results, we recommend exfoliating your face before using the face mask.

Face masks can be used both morning and evening. If you use a mask in the morning, you will refresh and moisturise your skin, preparing it for make-up. And if you use it at night, before bed, the active ingredients in the mask serum will be absorbed into the deepest layers of your skin overnight. In the morning, your skin will be moisturised and radiant.

For even more impressive results, the face mask can be refrigerated for 30 minutes before application.

Start from the forehead and slowly work your way down the face. Try not to leave any patches of skin or air bubbles uncovered - it should stick to your face like a second skin. Be sure to use the rest of the serum in the pack: pour the rest into the palm of your hand and apply it to your neck, décolleté, arms, elbows or even legs.

Store for the period indicated on the product packaging.

Using a cream mask: apply face mask evenly, avoiding the eye and lip areas. Keep the mask on for as long as the product instructions say.

  • After use: rinse the mask with cold water to close the pores. You can apply a moisturising cream to your face. This will consolidate the result of the mask.
